Nokia changes Qt’s license

Nokia announced today that the next version of the Qt will be licensed under LGPL version 2.1 as well. The license change applies Qt version 4.5 which is due to be released March 2009. You can read more about the change on the Qt Software site.

This is an expected licensing change after the Nokia’s acquisition of Trolltech. This change will also cover the Symbian/S60 port of the Qt as well. This is significant because Qt, with the new license option and the platforms, is a good solution as a cross-platform user interface spanning desktop to mobile.

I guess this announcement is well received by the KDE community where Qt is the choice of UI toolkit.
